Applications Engineer - Southfield, MI

The Applications Engineer will provide pre- and post-sales technical software support to nCode customers and the HBM-nCode sales team.  In this position, you will support the use of nCode DesignLife software for finite element (FE) based fatigue and durability prediction.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Understand customers’ finite element and durability analysis requirements
  • Demonstrate nCode DesignLife software to current and prospective customers
  • Provide technical support to nCode users, investigating requirements and proposing solutions
  • Mentor users on best practices when using nCode software
  • Present nCode software training courses for customers
  • Test nCode software releases for functionality and quality
  • Provide feedback to HBM-nCode product management on future software functionality
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably mechanical or civil
  • Practical knowledge of CAE-based structural analysis, including pre/post-processors, solvers, analysis techniques, and best practices
  • Knowledge of industry-standard FE analysis software like ANSYS, Abaqus, or NASTRAN
  • Ability to listen to customers and understand their technical requirements
  • Good presentation skills, both written and verbal
  • Proven ability to work independently
  • Interest in working in a commercial environment
  • US citizenship/Green Card/current H1B Visa holder

Nice to have qualifications: 

  • 3+ years as a software application engineer (AE), interfacing with customers on software usage
  • Knowledge of engineering durability topics such as fatigue and structural analysis
  • Knowledge of durability and fatigue analysis software like nCode GlyphWorks, DesignLife, or FE-Fatigue
  • Knowledge of nCode products and associated technologies

Senior Software Engineer - Web Applications - Sheffield / Rotherham, UK

The Senior Software Engineer will develop software code which can be assembled to create products and implement projects based on J2EE architecture. Modify and maintain existing product code. Contribute to the design, building and deployment of commercial software products based on a technology stack based on JavaScript, Java, SQL using ORACLE and WebLogic application server. A minimum of 2-3 years of relevant development experience is desired.

Position Responsibilities:

  • To provide software coding and bug fixing.
  • Creation of documents to support design, specification, and product management activities.
  • Basic software documentation generation.
  • Liaison with other nCode groups, including Support and Sales and required.
  • To make recommendations to resolve technical, strategic and organisational issues.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience of JavaScript, ideally with knowledge of the Angular JS and Bootstrap toolkits, CSS and HTML5
  • Java programming with knowledge of the Spring framework
  • Experience in multi-tiered architectures

Desired Aptitudes and Experience:

  • Experience administering application servers and databases, ideally ORACLE and WebLogic Knowledge of Linux scripts and/or Windows batch files.

Senior Java Developer - Sheffield / Rotherham, UK

We are seeking an experienced Java Developer to join our Enterprise Software Team. The successful candidate will be working on a mature enterprise product based on ORACLE or MySQL databases and either Websphere, JBOSS or Wildfly web application servers. Coding is based on Java, Javascript, HTML and SQL.  

To succeed in this role, you will be able to, or learn how to, work on all aspects of the product including problem resolution, refactoring existing code, adding functionality, testing and deployment.

It is essential for the successful candidate to be able to work in a team but also be willing to show initiative in understanding the complex interactions between the system components. 

Other attributes and skills include:

  • Experience using Agile software development methods, notably Scrum
  • A track record of working successfully with an enterprise stack
  • An understanding of scripting on Windows and Linux
  • Ability to work directly with customers either remotely or on-site to resolve problems or develop specifications

Oracle Database & Middleware Administrator - Sheffield / Rotherham, UK

We are seeking an Oracle Database & Middleware Administrator to join our Enterprise Software Team. In addition to providing technical expertise for IT professionals in database management and Java application server systems, the successful Oracle Database & Middleware Administrator will be prepared to be an active member of IT and Development projects. The role will entail reviewing all areas of data management to maintain and improve efficiency, selecting updates and developing standard procedures to optimise Database and Middleware performance. 

To succeed as this Oracle Database & Middleware Administrator, you will develop specifications of requirements and plans for the installation and commission of hardware and software, lead investigation into complex problems and diagnose underlying causes, and implement known on-site solutions and workarounds to assist users during recovery whilst continuing operations. This may also include managing incidents referred to you by less experienced staff, and recommending suitable goods and services to ensure continuity of service. The nature of an administrator role includes being prepared to work flexibly as our customers are worldwide.

It is essential for the successful Oracle Database & Middleware Administrator to have proven their ability to manage applications and to have a proven track record in custom configurations. Experience of Java, Weblogic, Oracle database administration and Devops is essential, and holding an Oracle certified Professional Accreditation (DBA or Middleware) or equivalent is highly desirable. Experience in using embedded Oracle would be an advantage. 

Other essential attributes and skills include:

  • Experience using continuous integration systems (particularly Hudson/Jenkins)
  • Ability to specify and create administration tools that wrap around Oracle administration tools as part of an embedded Oracle deployment
  • A track record of working successfully with all components of IT infrastructures
  • Previous success using Oracle products running on Linux and Windows
  • An understanding of Linux Shell Scripting
  • Experience of server and database monitoring and management tools.
  • A successful track record of making sound risk-aware decisions to deliver agreed priorities
  • Experience of other Java application servers such as WebSphere and Wildfly would be an advantage.

As the successful Oracle Database & Middleware administrator, you will initiate regular exercises to optimise database and middleware performance, manage database and application server resources, select updates and write appropriate standard procedures to carry out defined tasks associated with maintaining databases and middleware.
