Whatever your focus – whether it’s high-grade materials and surface treatments or pioneering additive manufacturing solutions – the quest to increase product efficiency and durability starts with the identification of the appropriate materials.

Fatigue Test Methods

Be it a newly developed alloy, a composite or a joint, only a profound grasp of its key material attributes will allow you to feed simulation or build prototypes. Sourcing reliable fatigue data can prove challenging, and understanding the performance of cutting-edge materials in increasingly challenging environments requires real expertise.

SN and EN fatigue

From strain-controlled (EN) or load-controlled (SN) fatigue tests to data analysis required to calculate fatigue parameters, HBK performs the testing and characterisation necessary for obtaining accurate fatigue life estimates from FEA and fatigue analysis.

Fatigue testing under elevated temperatures

Fatigue lives change significantly at non-ambient temperatures. HBK has a range of appliances to test temperatures from –50°C to + 900°C. And we provide all the properties from isothermal and Chaboche analysis to deliver accurate fatigue life estimates.

Fatigue of joints and fixtures

Whether you are welding, fastening or bonding materials together, HBK offers a range of models to estimate the fatigue life of complex joints. We test, measure, and derive all the parameters you need to obtain accurate fatigue life estimates.

Novel and advanced materials

Working alongside academic institutions and commercial enterprises, HBK helps to provide mathematical models, experimental design, and characterisation analysis for fatigue. Our experience includes different forms of advanced engineering composites and additively manufactured materials.

Custom testing

Not all tests are covered by standards. HBK is renowned for developing custom tests for all sorts of applications, for example, extracting tiny specimens from cast components or performing torsional fatigue tests on shafts materials at elevated temperatures.

Fracture mechanics

Fatigue failure is a two-stage process combining crack initiation and growth to failure. HBK offers a range of crack growth models as well as turnkey testing and characterisation services that enable you to accurately estimate crack growth.

Delving Into the Fatigue and Durability Data of Modern Engineered Materials

The increasing demand for fatigue and durability assessment has stretched the resources of not only major companies boasting their own testing facilities but also smaller companies seeking expert help to generate the right fatigue data essential for modelling, simulation or to prove that new processes and materials are fit for purpose.

This is where our Advanced Materials Characterisation & Testing facility (AMCT), near Sheffield, UK, demonstrates its value. With a proven track record spanning more than two decades, we specialise in characterising material data so that engineering companies can have confidence in simulation and fatigue predictions.
